I’ve been waiting for my man
To take all my problems with one hand
He’ll take me to a beach in Nice
Maybe I’ll find a little peace
A little peace
‘Cause my mind’s been open ‘til 4 am
Thinking about nothing if he can
Take me away, this white knight
Maybe everything will be alright
It’ll be alright
If you see, see my man
If you see, see my man
Tell him don’t be late
I’ve been waiting too long
Girls aren’t meant to be this strong
I thought it’d be over with one kiss
Thought he’d hit and run and cut
To the end of the movie
Cry during credits, exit out smoothly
With your date in tow
But i’m still waiting in the exit row
And thinking maybe
But i’m growing restless baby
If you see, see my man
If you see, see my man
Tell him don’t be late
I’ve been waiting too long
Girls aren’t meant to be this strong
It’s alright, it’s alright if you got lost on your way here
It’s alright, it’s alright if I’m not high on your list of priorities dear
It’s alright x8
If you see, see my man
Tell him I don’t understand
I wrote him this song so if he gets here
He’ll know what’s going on
This girl’s grown strong
This girl’s grown strong
This girl’s grown strong

Christina Li releases “My Man” on the back of her 2020 debut single “Keep Me Company.” “My Man” sets an alternative rock tone for powerful lyrics that don’t hold back on female fallibility:
“If you see my man, tell him don’t be late. I’ve been waiting too long - girls aren’t meant to be this strong.”
The feeling evoked by the new track can best be described with the following statement:
“When you know you’re in love you have great times, and you use them to balance one let down after another,” explains Li of the deceptively upbeat “My Man.” “Those disappointments can pile on, and sometimes you need to embrace who you are regardless of what others expect of you. Hurtful experiences or heartbreak can give way to a new found self empowerment and reliance.”
Li is on hiatus travelling around New Zealand before heading home to San Francisco. This song is her goodbye to one of the greatest and most impactful chapters in her life.
